How It Works

Shared Apprenticeships is part of a CITB*1 initiative to provide flexible resourcing for the Construction Industry whilst enabling our Apprentices to gain valuable experience on site and ensure they can compete their apprenticeship despite variations in the duration of construction projects.

We support the Local Economy by employing local people from local communities and arrange a series of work placements for them with Host Contractors*2 in the region.

For Host Contractors, this means having a local Apprentice with PPE, insurance and a CSCS card*3 for the duration of the work whilst we handle the HR, College admin and PAYE.  And for our Apprentices, this means having the opportunity to build a quality CV based on a variety of experience.  As a result, many have been hired by one of their Host Contractors either mid-term or on completion of their apprenticeship.

*1 The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) works with construction companies to improve skills and increase competitive edge to build a better Britain.

*2 Host Contractors are typically either substantial Construction companies, or Subcontractors (working on site with those large firms), or local general builders.

*3 Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards enable our Apprentices to work on site.
